Here at Adjoa we love the planet and are driven to minimise our carbon footprint as much as possible. All of our items are hand-made, made to order and plastic free. Here are some care tips for your items!
We highly recommend using detergents without synthetic microfibres that enter our oceans.
Cold washing your Ankara and Kente fabrics as they are wax print fabrics, line dry - Hanging your garments vertically can encourage your items to dry quickly with minimal creasing. Warm ironing if necessary.
For cotton: Rinse your cotton fabrics on a cool cycle. To avoid shrinkage, wash on gentle setting. Shake garments after removal from the machine to minimise wrinkles. Iron on warm heat if necessary
Sustainability is the core of our foundation. Each fabric and material is carefully sourced and selected in minimal quantity and hand-made to order.
Our collections are limited editions based on our fabric and material quantity.
About african wax prints
Ankara is a type of wax print commonly used in west Africa.They are industrially produced colourful cotton cloths with batik inspired printing. One feature of these materials is the lack of difference in the colour intensity of the front and back sides. The wax fabric can be sorted into categories of quality due to the processes of manufacturing.
Kente is a Ghanaian textile, made of handwoven cloth strips of silk and cotton.
A fabric that is considered only to be worn by royalty among ethnic groups is now worn as a widespread symbol to commemorate special occasions, with highly sought after Kente brands led by master weavers.
Kente print is very different from raw kente. It is a more commercialised alternative to the regal fabric. Kente print is a wax print version of the traditional cloth textiles
